With more than 70,000 users, FreeWorld Dialup (FWD) is one of the more popular SIP-based telephone services. FWD is offered free of charge, and can be configured with a number of different software-and hardware-based IP phones, including the Linksys (Sipura) SPA series devices.
The following instructions should have FWD installed on your Linksys device in a matter of a few minutes.

To configure the Linksys device, you will need to know its IP address. To determine the device's IP address, do the following:
Using a phone connected to the SPA device, press the "*" key 4 times to turn on the voice menu on the adaptor. once the voice menu is activated, type "110#". The voice menu will then read out the device's IP address.
Type that IP address into your browser, which should bring up the device's main configuration screen. You will need to enter the device's administrator's advanced settings. Click on "Admin Login." Now click on "Advanced" near the upper-right corner of the configuration screen.

2. Select "Yes" for "Line Enable;"
3. The default SIP Port is "5060." Under most circumstances, this is fine. However, if you have a pre-existing IP telephony device on your network, such as a Cisco ATA-186, which is already configured to use port 5060, use "5061" as your "Sip Port" on the SPA device;
4. The "Network Jitter Level," is aimed at correcting an audible click during certain phone conversations. Experiment with this setting if, after installing FWD on the SPA device, you hear extraneous clicking sounds in the middle of calls;
5. If your SPA device is on a DHCP network, where IP addresses are dynamically assigned by a router, select "Yes" for "NAT Mapping Enable." If you have assigned a static IP address to your SPA device and you are not on a DHCP server, then select "No" for this field;
6. If your SPA device is on a DHCP network, where IP addresses are dynamically assigned by a router, select "Yes" for "NAT Keep Alive Enable." If you have assigned a static IP address to your SPA device and you are not on a DHCP server, then select "No" for this field;

14. The "Preferred Codec" setting depends largely on your internet bandwidth. If you have a speedy broadband connection to the internet, using "G711u" will usually provide the highest voice quality. If your internet connection is slower -- under 90 Kbps -- it is best to choose a high-compression Codec such as "729a;"

15. For FWD, set "Dial Plan" to:
Code:
(xxx|xxxx|xxxxx|xxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|*1xxxxxxxxxx|**1xxxxxxxxxx)
After entering the above settings, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Submit All Changes". This will force the unit to re-boot.
After the reboot, the main configuration page will open. Check the "Registration State" under "Line X Status" (where X is the line you just configured). If the state is set to "Registered," your SPA device is now set up to work with FWD. If not, carefully follow the above steps again.
