Sipura Technology has issued a new firmware release, version 1.0.29, for the SPA-2000 telephone adaptor the company says provides significant performance enhancements and fixes a number of compatibility issues.

The firmware upgrade is available at Sipura's web site at
http://www.sipura.com/support/index.htm.

According to a company official, the upgrade fixes a "rare" campatibility annoyance that prevented the telephone adaptor from working correctly with a small number of phones.

The new version marks the first time Sipura releases a firmware update that will not allow firware downgrade's to previous versions.

Among the performance enhancements are the ability to perform a blind transfer with target number prepended by a service "*" code which triggers transfer. This feature allows the SIP server to perform special service on the transferred call. The target number (without "*" code) is checked by the dial plan as the user enters it.

A new configuration option has been added to set an FXS port's power limitation.

Besides the phone compatibility issue, the new firmware also fixes a bug that prevented the correct time from being set when used with an NTP server.
